Rest is Very Important
In a world where everyone is being so productive and is busy with their daily life routine, it is not like that and not right to consider the time for rest as wasteful and unnecessary. I highly disagree with this mindset. It is very important to have some time to rest from work, people, hobbies, passions, and everything that you do. Taking breaks actually boosts your efficiency and creativity side. People who are hustling all day, week, month, and year are not building themselves up; they are actually destroying themselves because they are not allowing themselves to think, analyse, understand, and enjoy life. Instead, they are just busy working and maintaining their lifestyle.
My intention isn’t to advise abandoning employment or taking long breaks. Instead, I recommend short breaks, self-reflection on personal development, cultivating relationships, establishing a home, forming a family, and pursuing a life beyond work.
I’m sure some of you are asking, “How hard is it to take a break, that we need to have this discussion?” I agree, it is a new skill that people need to learn, especially in our current work culture. Many people don’t realise that they need to take breaks so that their bodies can rest, their minds can have peace, and their hearts can experience genuine emotional connection. It’s almost as if we forget how important these things are to overall health and well-being.
Many people work 7-8 hours daily, regardless of being educators, students, or professionals. The problem isn’t the hours, but the consistent daily schedule without breaks. Assuming unwavering passion when neglecting well-being is self-deception. Work becomes the sole focus, which is detrimental, as work-life balance is important. While essential professions may require extended hours, all individuals have a responsibility to maintain balance. I believe this topic warrants discussion.

Now some of you might be thinking that it’s all rubbish: we have to hustle very hard nowadays to survive, earn respect, make money, have a good livelihood, and to prove something. We have to work, and breaks are just a waste of time. So, to the people who are still unconvinced by my opinion, I’d like to share some facts from science that shows that rest is important.
- Improves Creativity- So proper breaks and rest do improve a person’s creativity and make them more efficient. I’ve attached an article about that, for your convenience.
- Doing Nothing Reduces Stress- So the thing I want to say is, which would make you think is that only people who are working are stressed? I hope you agree with me. People doing nothing are so free and have no stress. I’m not saying you should stop doing everything, but I am generally saying that taking breaks and having nothing to do can sometimes reduce stress.
- Boredom Improve Problem Solving Skills- So, this means that whenever you let your mind think critically and analyse its surroundings, your brain becomes more efficient toward problem-solving skills. That’s why it’s also said to have proper sleep, but modern thinking has also put that into delusion. They think that sleeping 7–8 hours is a useless idea. But our body and mind demand sleep of at least 7–8 hours a day, and if you once follow proper sleep, you will surely see yourself performing better and improving your mood.
After reading this post, we can all come to the same conclusion that rest and breaks are indeed very important. Don’t feel guilty after taking a break; instead, embrace it with a smile on your face. Just think of it as if you are improving yourself by taking a proper rest and break. If you sleep seven to eight hours per day, don’t feel stressed about it, instead be happy that you are among the rarest individuals in the world population who have mastered the skill of taking a break and being able to steal a peaceful sleep from a busy schedule. Be proud of yourself and understand its importance.
In the same way that we give our bodies time to recover from exercise, we need to provide the rest of us time to heal as well. People who go to the gym are advised to go to the gym for only 4-6 days. Nobody tells them to come seven days a week. They are also asked to take one day a week to rest so that their body has time to recover. In the same way, we need to give our minds rest. This may involve meditating, doing yoga, pursuing a hobby, or simply sitting free from obligations, observing, thinking, smiling, and recovering. It is an art form, so we need to learn to practice it.
Rest is a fine medicine. Let your stomachs rest, ye dyspeptics; let your brain rest, you wearied and worried men of business; let your limbs rest, ye children of toil! -Thomas Carlyle
If we could learn how to balance rest against effort, calmness against strain, quiet against turmoil, we would assure ourselves of joy in living and psychological health for life. -Josephine Rathbone
