Being extremist is mostly seen as negative, even if taken from the past. But are there any advantages of being an extremist, and why is being an extremist considered negative? Before getting to all of these questions, what is an extremist, and who are they?
Extremists are the people and mindset that believe only in their opinion and don’t take any other opinion from others. They are the ones who have a belief or opinion regarding any ideology, religion, or political or personal matter. In all of these matters you can find extremists who have their own opinions and don’t take the viewpoint of others, even going so far as to impose their opinions on others, even using force. Such people are extremists.
So after having a definition of ‘extremist’, it does create a negative image of a person, and that’s how it did for me. However, when I thought about it for a long time and read more about it, I found that there are some advantages:
- In order to make progress and effect change in society, there’s a need for extremists who strongly believe in themselves and try to change others. History is full of people like Martin Luther, Mahatma Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela, who were all extremists in their thoughts and actions, and their extremism was crucial in bringing about a lot of social change. Their ability to think and act outside the box led to positive, forward-thinking change.
- The arts are full of passionate extremists who create out-of-the-box things. They believe in themselves and don’t worry about the opinions of other people. Extremists make the world an interesting and exciting place.
- Fields like science, mathematics, and philosophy, along with all the research-based fields, have extremists who came up with all kinds of inventions that are still used today. The extremist approach helps them try something new and not worry about the opinions of other people, so they move forward and make changes.
Extremism can be dangerous in some cases, but it can also be the key to making positive change. By re-examining what’s defined as ‘extremism’, society can learn to differentiate between extremists whose extremism inspires good and extremists whose extremism inspires harm. It is also important to note that sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between the two.
Now let’s see how being extremist can be a disadvantage –
- Lack of open-mindedness: People who are extremist become very stubborn and don’t welcome any kind of new point of view or opinion from other people. If people with this view hear an opinion that is not in accordance with their own, they may respond negatively. It is important for everyone to have an open mind so they don’t turn into extremists.
- Destructive: Being extreme in social, political, or religious matters can sometimes become destructive in actions, with Hitler being a prime example. He was an extremist who tried to destroy the Jewish community simply because he disliked them. Extremists like this can be dangerous, such as those who promote conspiracy theories.
- Manipulation: Extremists can be the best at it, and manipulating someone for their personal motives can have a negative impact. They can manipulate someone’s thoughts and actions. If they think their cause is worth it, they can manipulate the way you feel and think.
- Isolation: People who are extremists often prefer isolation, which can also cause many mental health problems and relationship problems, as they don’t receive opinions from any other person, and you can’t impose your opinion on everyone. Therefore, it’s difficult for them to be with someone, which is why they prefer being alone. This can cause mental health problems.
Is being an extremist good, or is it not? I think that there are advantages to being an extremist, but more disadvantages. In today’s world, one should be very open-minded about his or her thoughts and actions.
There are benefits to being an extremist. If you go to extremes in service of the good of society, you could become a leader, which people usually appreciate. The most important thing is what you are an extremist about. Is it good for society or bad for the people around you? Does being an extremist involve helping others, or is it against violence, corruption, and oppression? Having an extremist point of view may bring a lot of trouble, but it’s a good thing because you will be considered a leader by many but an enemy by many. This means you need to be very strong at the core.
It is best to strike a balance between being an extremist and being open-minded. You should take opinions from others and also have your own opinions. You should understand others’ actions and even review your own. Be practical and emotional, and understand the implications of your actions.
In summary, being an extremist is good only if your purpose is good and valuable. If you have a bad purpose, it’s extremely bad. If you’re open to the opinions of others, you’ll be a better leader, and people will look up to you. Being an extremist requires a strong character because it will bring a lot of competition, isolation, and dislike. You need to stay true to your words and thoughts and always be aware of what’s going on around you. Always choose a path that will not make people suffer, but rather help people, bring a smile to their faces, and help those in need.
