“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”-Edward Hopper
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything”-Plato
The world is full of rules, regulations, and logic. It can be a very constraining place, and it can be difficult to think outside the box. That’s where artists come in. They are the ones who are willing to think differently, to be different, and to believe in themselves. Consequently, they are frequently mischaracterized as “psychopathic” or “mentally unsound,” yet their essence lies in their distinctiveness.
Artists are free spirits who observe what others might overlook. They infuse their work with a part of themselves, making it uniquely different. An artist possesses diverse ways of thinking. While a typical person sees the ordinary, an artist perceives multiple elements—various colors, rhythms, and ideas—transforming them into something uniquely their own. Even the artist may not fully comprehend their own creation. They are unafraid to express themselves, seeing what others miss and taking the time to reshape the world into something new.

Being an artist is not just about music, painting, or writing. It’s about connecting with emotions, being curious, and exploring deeply. It’s about connecting with pure feelings, having the purity of heart to observe and feel, embracing mistakes and uncertainties, and finding beauty in the ordinary world.Art is the expression of an individual’s feelings in a way that influences others and makes them see it as relatable to their own lives. Such things were once ignored by society, but artists have taken the risk to think and act differently and go beyond their limits.
So now the question is how you can think like an artist. It’s not a difficult task, but it’s a very new topic to discuss.
- Embrace Imperfection- Perfection is an illusion. If you try to be perfect, you will never let yourself grow and look at things the way they are. Instead, you should embrace imperfection. There is nothing perfect in the world, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to bring beauty into the world through your creations.
- Point of view- Being an artist means having a strong point of view when you see something. It is important to have a strong point of view, but it is equally important to be open to new ideas and influences. Don’t be swayed by the opinions of others. Stick to your guns and try to come up with something new and different.
- Curiosity-Always be curious. Look at things other people ignore, and try to see them with excitement. Always have the curiosity to learn something new, observe something, and express those things with a purity of emotions. When you see something that sparks your curiosity, ask questions. Ask why, how, and what if. Explore the possibilities of what might happen if you do something different. Try new things, and don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is just a stepping stone to success.
- Emotional connection- Try to connect with the things that you like and love, and express them in your own form. You can do this through music, visual art, literature, or any other medium. When you create, add your own flavour and make sure it reflects your image. Your work should have meaning for you and for your audience. It should be a reflection of your feelings and a way of looking at things.
- Dare to be Different-If you want to think like an artist, you have to dare to be different. This means doing the things that the crowd is afraid to do, expressing the feelings that others hesitate to discuss, and talking about the topics that people avoid. At first, your audience might dislike you, but once they understand your art, it will become like a cult, and they will be your most ardent supporters.
- Way of Expression- Art is a form of communication that can take many forms. Everyone has a different way of expressing themselves, and art allows us to share our feelings and ideas with others. However, it is important to create content that is visible and accessible to everyone. The best art allows the audience to relate to or find meaning in the work. Professions are still what people approach, but art needs to approach people.
- Keep Learning- Artists are always learning, and they approach the world with a childlike curiosity. They ask multiple questions about a single thing, and they want to know the answer to everything they see. They learn when they are taught, and they keep learning throughout their lives. This insatiable curiosity is one of the things that makes artists such interesting and creative people.
- Connect dots – Gathering different things and topics around you and connecting the dots within them can lead to creating something new and wonderful. At first, the dots you connect may not make sense, but with time and effort, you can create something unexpected and beautiful. This is possible only if you gain knowledge from your surroundings and try to make connections with them. Brainstorming may be required, but you have to do it.
This is how artists think: they dare to do what others won’t. We hesitate to go beyond our limits, which are set by society. We all want security, but the artistic field is not inherently secure. It requires constant modification, change, and innovation to create something new that gives people goosebumps. Artists are not so different from you and me; they just have the courage to challenge the world, themselves, and the people around them. This is the nature of true art: it is a reflection of the human condition, and it requires courage to create.
“Everyone is an artist in their own right. They simply need to discover their inner artist and allow it to shine through.”
